Corten steel arrives with a bare steel finish and is designed to weather naturally with exposure to the elements.
The resulting patina protects the steel and gives each bed a unique, organic finish.
I was excited to apply the patina formula to these, but the metal content seems to be more nickel than steel, which resists being rusted. Each panel required 4-5 sandings just to get a semi-rust patina, which is the main appeal of corten steel. The exterior side where panels connect together still have not rusted at the same rate as the rest of the face of the panel, so now the appearance is part grey metal and part rust patina. Very frustrating.
