Skip the Plastic Trays — Grow Stronger Seedlings from the Start
If you've ever lost a seedling to transplant shock or dealt with tangled, circling roots, soil blocking might change the way you start seeds. The Gardenary Soil Blocker makes 4 firm 2" soil blocks at once — no plastic cells, no pots, no waste. Just compact, perfectly formed blocks that give your seeds the ideal environment to germinate and grow.
Used by experienced gardeners who want healthier starts and a cleaner setup, this is the tool that turns seed starting from a plastic-heavy process into a simple, efficient, low-waste practice.
Quick Highlights
- Makes 4 soil blocks simultaneously — each a perfect 2" square
- Built-in dibber pins create a seed-sowing indentation in every block
- Heavy-duty zinc-coated steel construction for long-lasting durability
- Comfortable wooden handle for firm, consistent pressing
- Eliminates plastic trays and reduces transplant shock
How Soil Blocking Works
Soil blocking compresses pre-moistened seed starting mix into dense, freestanding cubes. Instead of sitting inside a plastic cell, each block is exposed on all sides — which means roots air-prune naturally when they reach the edge. Rather than circling the container, roots redirect their energy inward and develop a dense, fibrous root system. The result is a stronger, more resilient seedling that transitions into the garden with far less stress.
No containers. No circling roots. No transplant shock.
What's in the Box
- 1 4 cell soil blocker — makes 4 blocks at once
- Each block: 2" × 2"
- Built-in seed dibber pins included
How to Use It
🪣 Step 1 — Prep your mix Moisten your seed starting mix until it holds together like firm brownie batter — wetter than standard consistency so the blocks hold their shape.
🔲 Step 2 — Press and release Press the blocker firmly into the mix, compress, then release onto a solid tray. Blocks should hold their shape and sit snugly side by side.
🌱 Step 3 — Sow your seeds Drop one seed into the small indentation at the top of each block. Cover lightly if needed.
💧 Step 4 — Water from below Place your block tray inside a non-draining tray and water from below. Because there are no container walls, consistent moisture is especially important — blocks can dry out faster than cell trays.
